Marriage of the Prophet: Hypocrisy of Critiques

The Prophet (a.s) married one and only virgin Ayesha (peace be upon her) when she was 9, according to the order of Allah and as accepted in that society in those days. According to Hadith in Sahih Bukhari.

Narrated `Aisha: that the Prophet (ﷺ) married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old. Hisham said: I have been informed that `Aisha remained with the Prophet (ﷺ) for nine years (i.e. till his death). Sahih Al Bukhari 5134

The marriage was not due to political reasons or desire of flesh (lust).

If it was due to desire of flesh, then the Prophet could have married as many as Virginia as he wanted , as the Prophet of the Bible , King David and Solomon and others (peace and blessings be upon them all), married 100s and kept 100s of concubines.

Such marriages , including polygamous marriages held in the house of holy people in India, such as King Ram, who is considered as God in India.

We do not disrespect or mock at the holy people of other religions. Rather, we respect their true teachings and exemplar life, and honor them.

When the world of ignorance debate about the marriage of Prophet Muhammad (a.s) to the daughter of his nearest friend Abu Bakkar (ra) and insult Islam, they don’t want to investigate the childhood marriages held in their own religous communities even to 19th and century.

According to modern secular laws and view , adulthood of a person is fixed at age 18 and above. Anything below age 18 is considered as minor or juvenile by definition of the law and sociology.

Catherine of Aragon 16 December 1485 – 7 January 1536 (aged 50)
engaged to Prince of Wales Arthur when she was age 3 and married at age 15.

In the Bible:
Meanwhile David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he came from Hebron; and more sons and daughters were born to David. Now these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Eliada and Eliphelet. 2 Samuel 5:13-16 (NASB)

According to the Old Testament , King David Followed Lord Completely:

1 Kings 11:  So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not follow the Lord completely, as David his father had done.

King David is a Prophet according to the New Testament:

“…29 Brothers, I can tell you with confidence that the PATRIARCH DAVID died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 HE WAS A PROPHET and knew that God had promised him on oath that He would place one of his descendants on his throne.” Acts 2:29-30

70 years Old King David Marrried 12 years Old Abishag:

Just as it is non-Quranic tradition is the marriage of Prophet with Ayesha when she was 9 , so the marriage of Isaac (a.s) and Rebecca , the son of Prophet Abraham (a.s)

Since Isaac was 40 when he married Rebekah, Rebekah would be 3 when the marriage took place (because 40-37=3)

According to the consensus of Jewish Scholars, Rebecca was married to Isaac son of Abraham (peace be upon them), no she was no later than age 14. So the age is somewhere between 3 to 14.

So if the claim of those pseudo-Missionaries who reject and insult Prophet Muhammad (a.s) for marrying 9nyears old when he was over 50 is a self-contradiction and lack of self-respect or lack of self-esteem. Which prove they also see the Prophets in their own Book (Bible) in the same way as they view the Prophet of Islam.

But so many Christians who are filled with hatred and denial of the teachings of Bible hail those Missionaries who attack Islam!

Marriage in Hinduism:

King Dhasaratha, Father of Lord Ram had three spouses.

Spouse of Hindu Kings:
In modern days, In December 1756, when Anandibai was yet a child, she was married to Raghunath Rao, younger brother of Balaji Baji Rao. She was his second wife. Raghunathrao’s first wife (Janaki Bai of the Barwe family) had died in August 1755.

Charles IV of France Married Blanche of Burgundy, Countess of Savoy. Blanche of Burgundy, Countess of Savoy.  (c. 1296 – c. 1326), married on c 1307 at age 11.

In Modern India:

Kasturbai Mohandas Gandhi ) , born Kasturbai Gokuldas Kapadia; 11 April 1869 – 22 February 1944) was an Indian political activist. She was married  at age 14 to Father of modern India, Mohandas Gandhi in 1883

There are many more examples to say, but this is sufficient for those who seek justice and truth about marriage in older days up until 20th century.

The Medieval age was more religious than today, so it is another hypocrisy of today’s people who are still following medieval and ancient religions that endorsed child marriage, to criticise Islam. The fact is, you are not following your religion as it was followed by it’s founders and patrons. But you claim and label yourselves as followers of those religions and criticise Islam, while the revered people of your religions married 3 years to 15 year olds, when they were over 50 or more!

So i suggest everyone to study marriage in Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam in 7th century C.E. And if you find only Prophet Muhammad (a.s) married 9 years old in that period of history, then you have some legitimate ground to criticise Islam!. But if you find the leaders of your religions marrying 3 years old to 14 years olds, then please mocking and criticising starting with your religions first!
